Which gloves should you prepare for emergencies?
Except for disposable medical gloves and kitchen gloves, I have never bought gloves.
I saw gloves at the hardware store, but there were so many kinds.
If I buy new gloves for an emergency, I can use them in my daily life, right?
Gloves are a protective barrier for your hands, and when you work with the right gloves, you forget you’re even wearing them. They fit like a second skin.
In an emergency, you will find yourself in unexpected situations, and you might not know how to proceed. You can not avoid and must not ignore reality. You have to start working toward a swift reconstruction in the aftermath.
Gloves will help with your work after a disaster. They will help you find your motivation to get back to a normal life.
Let’s pick up where we left off with my previous post (#96). Here is some more information about gloves for emergencies.
Which one?

There are many brands of gloves in the stores. You know from post #96 that gloves have important features that you need to consider. Even with all the options, it can be quite difficult to find fully equipped gloves that are exactly what you need. Be willing to settle for good gloves that have most of what you want but that maybe aren’t perfect.
I decided to prioritize cut resistance, water proofing, and a good fit.
Plus, price!!

This is a set of gloves with a towel, compressed to the size of a bar of soap (see post #84 for details). These are simple cotton gloves, and a small hand towel. I put one in each of my kids’ evacuation bags. If you plan to visit Japan, these make good souvenirs!

Where to set up emergency gloves?
I set up gloves in our emergency evacuation bags both in the home and in our cars. We also try to use gloves more in our daily lives, in the home. I keep a pair of work gloves in the kitchen that we use when we need to cut hard-to-cut foods (like a big pumpkin, winter squash, fish, etc.). Try it. Keep a pair of cut-resistant work gloves in the kitchen, for safety.

Recommendations
Find opportunities to use gloves. Get used to them!!
If you have small kids and you want to teach them how to cook, let them wear gloves to protect their hands. You won’t need to worry so much, the first time they use a knife.

I was a child, I don’t have any special gloves for cooking at the time. Then I cut my fingers all the time.
Thankfully, that experiences made me learn how to use the knife carefully.
My parenting policy, I try to teach life skill to my kids from my experiences. Even thought it is out of day,
it’s ok! Don’t protect too much and in moderation.

When you need to clean up muddy water your home after flooding, it’s very important to prevent unnecessary exposure to microorganisms such as bacteria, mold and etc. Do not forget to wear gloves. It’s ok kitchen gloves better than nothing.

I got an infection from a hangnail. Everybody be careful!!
