Prepare Plastic Wrap for Emergencies (1) #87

How can I use plastic wrap for emergencies?

Surprisingly, plastic wrap is a useful
emergency tool!!

Plastic wrap? You don’t mean plastic wrap, like in the kitchen? Do you?

Huh? Plastic wrap for emergencies? No way.

I don’t cook often… I don’t have plastic wrap.

Really, thank goodness for recent technology!

Plastic wrap is a very useful kitchen tool, but actually it’s not only for cooking. We can use it in emergencies, too. How often do you use plastic wrap? You might have health-related or environmental concerns regarding plastic wrap, and maybe you even stopped using it altogether because of these concerns. But please read this post and then reconsider getting plastic wrap at least for your emergency stockpile, if not for daily use.

Plastic materials are inexpensive and convenient, and they have become widely used in many industries, especially the food industry.

Plastic wrap (polyvinylidene chloride) was discovered by Dow Chemical lab worker Ralph Wiley, in 1933. It was first used by the military before becoming a household product.

Plastic wrap helps preserve items and protects against dust, insects, scratches, moisture, evaporation, spills and more. This wide variety of uses makes plastic wrap good for emergency situations.

After the 2011 Great Tohoku Earthquake in Japan, 500,000 rolls of plastic wrap were sent to the stricken areas by Asahi Kasei.co. It helped people a lot, so since then, the company has sent plastic wrap to other big earthquake sites.

Why don’t you prepare plastic wrap for emergencies ?

Plastic wrap uses include: Saving water / Cold-weather gear/ Water proofing / First aid / Holding in odors / Rope / Message board / Covering a broken window / Putting items together / Dish sponge / etc.

Save water

In an emergency, we might not be able to use water for washing and cleaning. Use plastic wrap to wrap a plate or other dish. Then, after eating, remove the plastic wrap and throw it away. With plastic wrap, you won’t need to wash, and you can save water that way.

See you next time.

Remember, “Protect your life by yourself” (自分の命は自分で守る). You need to survive first, and then you need your emergency supply.  No matter how well you prepared your emergency supplies, if you die, then all of your preparations will have been for nothing.  First and foremost, keep your health up all the time. Build your stamina so that if you need to, you can evacuate as quickly as possible.  Stay healthy.
