If I Drink All of My Emergency Water, What Should I Do?

Once we use up all of our emergency water, what should we do?

You need another way to get drinking water.

“One day, we might run out of water.”

“After I use all the water, what should I do?”

“I have 3 days of water now, can I buy more?”

In an emergency, we don’t know when things will go back to normal.  If we knew the date that the crisis would end, we could be patient.  I’m afraid it’s not like that…  You have to steel yourself to the possibility of a long-term situation.

If you have enough space, you could set up a larger water supply in your emergency stockpile.  But even with a larger supply, in a prolonged emergency situation, you still might need to get more drinking water.  You need another way to get drinking water.

⚠️

I know it is difficult to accept the idea of life without the luxury of modern plumbing, but the fact is we must be prepared to live without it.

I recommend getting portable water filters for emergencies.

You might be in a situation where you would be lucky to find any water at all.  You might have to look for water everywhere possible, and you might end up finding it in unorthodox places.  You can’t be picky because it’s an emergency!!

I heard that the people living in the Noto peninsula ate snow after the earthquake there, earlier this year.
Their running water was knocked out, and they were lucky there was fresh snow on the ground.

Most of us have gotten used to the convenience of running water.

It makes personal hygiene and daily necessities so much easier.  I know it is difficult to accept the idea of life without the luxury of modern plumbing, but the fact is we must be prepared to live without it.  When we use portable water filters to drink dirty pond water after evacuating from our homes, we will be dreaming about clean, clear water.  But it’s better than nothing, and it’s for our survival.

Actually, even if it’s not an emergency situation, you can practice using portable water filters anytime you go out, at school, while hiking, etc.  You can make them part of your normal routine and get used to them.

I recommend using portable water filters to filter the water in your  old, expired water bottles,
so you don’t waste the old water from your stockpile

I have this.

The Seychelle Water Filtration Flip Top Bottle.

I picked up this because it (allegedly) removes up to 99% of contaminants and 99% of radiological contaminants.  It’s very lightweight.  I bought this for my kids to bring to school to use with water from drinking fountains. When we go hiking and the kids’ water bottles become empty, we can refill from any water faucet using this.

Sawyer Squeeze Water Filtration System and Mini Filtration System.

Also, I bought these Sawyer Squeeze filters for travel.  Recently, it has become very expensive to buy bottled water at the airport, hotels and tourist spots. So I can use these.

These water filters are very compact.  They claim to remove 99% of all bacteria and protozoa, as well as 100% of microplastics.  They fit inside my emergency backpack perfectly.

When your emergency water is expired or too old, you can use these water filters to freshen it up a bit.  It saves money and it saves space.  I strongly recommend getting at least one portable water filter.  I set up water filters in the kitchen, car and garage.

See you next time!

Remember, “Protect your life by yourself” (自分の命は自分で守る). You need to survive first, and then you need your emergency supply.  No matter how well you prepared your emergency supplies, if you die, then all of your preparations will have been for nothing.  First and foremost, keep your health up all the time. Build your stamina so that if you need to, you can evacuate as quickly as possible.  Stay healthy
